Borough Honors Police for Saving Lives

officers on Wednesday were recognized by the borough for savings lives through the effective use of CPR.

The officers were given recognition pins by Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps members Michael Bendett and Councilwoman Mary Jane Surrago.

On April 25, 2011, officers Sgt. Frank Riggio, P.O. Bryan Scott, P.O. Michael Trover and P.O. Greg Carter responded to a residence on report of a female not breathing. According to police, officers found a 66-year-old woman lifeless on the floor. Officers immediately began CPR and implemented use of a defibrolator.

Through the use of their training and equipment, the victim's heart started beating properly and she was stabilized. The victim was taken to Valley Hospital for emergency treatment and has since made a full recovery, according to police. 

The officers received "Defib Save Pins" for their actions on April 25.

On November 9, 2011 Sgt. Christopher Mc Inerney, P.O. James Mc Gill and P.O. Robert Surdyka responded to a residence on call that a 11-year-old girl was having trouble breathing. The officers found the child lifeless on the floor. They immediately initiated CPR and were able to get a heart beat. The girl was stabilized and taken to treatment.

Unfortunately, according to police, due to complications from several pre-existing medical conditions, she died on November 13.
