Do You Have What it Takes to Conquer the Bo'hemoth?

Glen Rock's Bagel Gourmet has a new challenge for serious eaters.

It is a sandwich with six eggs, five hash browns, five sausage patties, 10 slices of taylor ham, 10 pieces of bacon and 10 slices of cheese on a 20-ounce bagel that weighs in at a total of about four pounds. It's so big that anyone who wants to eat one has to pre-register and pay a $5 deposit. It is called The Bo'hemoth and it's available at Bagel Gourmet on Rock Road.

Glen Rock resident Matt Pasquinucci and Ridgewood residents Jimmy Foley and Collin Brotherton were the first to attempt The Bo'hemoth challenge — to eat one in 30 minutes. All three finished about half of their sandwiches before bowing out Sunday afternoon.

Bagel Gourmet owner Joe Marrara said he first began experimenting with the super-sized sandwich a year ago after he and his nephew were inspired by food challenge TV shows like Man v. Food, but didn't offer it sooner because he wanted to make sure it was done well.

"We didn't want to make one that was so big it was impossible to eat," Marrara said.

According to Marrara, anyone who completes the challenge will get an "I Conquered The Bo'hemoth" t-shirt, have their photo put on Bagel Gourmet's wall and eat for free. Those who fail have to pay $20 for their meal.

How often the challenge happens remains to be seen. Marrara said it could occur on a weekly basis if it becomes popular enough, but he can only make Bo'hemoths at off-peak hours because the ingredients take up his entire grill. For more information, visit Bagel Gourmet at 235 Rock Road or call (201) 652-9822.
