Fire Heavily Damages Dim Sum, Oak Street Collision

Fire occurred just after 1:30 a.m. Friday

Arson investigators say a fire that ripped through Dim Sum Dynasty and Oak Street Collision in the early morning hours of Friday was accidental, according to Ridgewood police.

Ridgewood Fire Chief Jim Van Goor said from the scene that heavy, choking smoke and large flames grew at a common walkway between the two businesses on Oak Street and Franklin Avenue just past 1:30 a.m.

The blaze, which prompted a general alarm response and assistance from Glen Rock, caused extensive smoke damage at both buildings. The rear office of Dim Sum also sustained considerable fire damage, the chief said. The fire was put out roughly an hour after the initial alarm went off.

"The guys got in there real fast and prevented the fire from extending," Van Goor said. "They really did a great job."

No one was in either building at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. Van Goor said the arson squad's investigation is standard procedure when fires occur at commercial properties.

Both buildings are certain to remain closed on Friday.

My parents love Dim Sum. Hopefully it's not closed too long.

East Coast Burger Company and apartments are great thanks to the Ridgewood Fire Department and their quick response and knocking down the fire and venting the smoke out. We are sorry our neighbors didn't fair as well.

Great job by Ridgewood Fire Department with Glen Rock. Rumor is it was started by Dim Sums dryer in the rear of the restaurant between them and the body shop.....

Good job by the emergency responders. Moderators, please remove the offensive comments above. Time for 'guy' to crawl back into the gutter with the rest of the trash.

I heard the sirens in GR at 1:57 AM. I am glad it was not someone's home. Sad it was a business. But businesses can come back even better.

GR and RW fire depts doing great work with each having big fires recently and doing a great job. Remember that the next time you hear someone say "why all this equipment"? If it's YOUR house, you'll want that equipment!
