Getting to Know: Rony Alvarado

New feature introduces you to residents, business owners

  • Rony Alvarado, the owner and cook at , stopped to talk to Glen Rock Patch recently. He opened up, answering a few questions for our new feature "Getting to Know Glen Rock."

ON ENTERTAINMENT: I like to watch those murder-mystery shows, like “Law and Order” and investigation type shows. It’s entertaining and applies to a lot of things going on in the world today. It’s easy to watch instead of the drama of reality shows. There’s too much fighting and cursing everyone out on those shows, it’s not relaxing to watch.

ON TRAVEL: I went to Pennsylvania not too long ago, which was nice. I went to Villanova to visit some friends for the day, it was an excellent time. It was a very nice trip.

ON WISHES: Let’s see…health for me and my family would be first. Another wish would be for no worries and peace of mind and finally I would wish for a shit load of money [laughs], because let’s be realistic, it’s what we all need. But, we also need our health and peace of mind – both are very important.

ON GLEN ROCK: What I like about Glen Rock is that people are very real here. There is money in town, but a lot of people wouldn’t know it. People aren’t stuck up. I live by Tenafly and Cresskill and people there wear fur coats and diamonds and are a little, how should I put it, snobby. Over here, people are very real and you wouldn’t think there is as much money as there is.

ON LEARNING: If I could learn one thing, I would want to learn how to meditate and learn how to clear my mind. I feel like finding an and achieving an inner peace would be great.

ON THE ISSUES: Honestly, the price of gas is something that bothers me. I don’t understand why people are taking such a beating on the price of gas. When the price of gas goes up, so does the price of everything else. It affects everyone astronomically. The high price makes everyone a little less happy and in turn that trickles down to me and my business. It affects my life tremendously.
