Girl, 6, Killed In Driveway On Overbrook Road
Somerville first-grader struck by car; prosecutor says incident being treated as a "very bad accident."
A 6-year-old girl died early Monday night after she was struck by a vehicle in a driveway on Overbrook Road, Ridgewood police said.
Details of the incident, which occurred about 5:30 pm, have not been released.
A message sent to parents by school officials identified the victim as first-grader Kelly Creegan.
School counselors, the child study team and other school personnel will be available Tuesday to offer support to students, Somerville Elementary School Principal Lorna Oates-Santos wrote.
“It’s a tragic loss for this community,” Police Chief John Ward said from the scene. ”Our hearts go out to all those impacted by this terrible loss.”
Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said that the incident is a "very bad accident that has not been classified as anything other than that at this time."
Ridgewood police said no charges have been filed and the investigation remains ongoing.
Police tape could be seen strung across a driveway, as the Fatal Accident Unit of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and a crime scene unit from the sheriff’s department investigated the death.
The investigators could be seen gathered around a black car in the driveway.

James,
I'm a little disturbed at the new photos you posted. I'm not sure what value it brings to show a blue tarp on the spot where a 6 year old died. Not only is it in poor taste, but it's quite disturbing too. I'm sure her family and friends don't need to see that image.

@Concerned What are you talking about? I don't see a photo with a blue or any other color tarp. Thanks, James, I think the photos are appropriately news-oriented and not at all sensational.

Everyone's talking about having respect for the families involved, but they're driving down the street, rubbernecking, and then u-turning in our driveways. And taking pictures. Really?

Thank G-d justice is not left to the ammature, wannabe, criminal detectives who shamelessly speculate over a parking arrangement that many in this town of shared driveways has. This is a horrible accident. Save your opinions for the Fox network and use your energies to help those in need; the Creegans an their neighbors
