Glen Rock DPW Worker Injured in 'Freak Accident'
The blade of bucket truck hit a raised manhole cover Saturday morning, injuring a worker.
A Glen Rock DPW worker sustained injuries following what was described as a "freak accident," borough officials told Patch.
According to Glen Rock Police Cpt. Jonathan Miller, the worker – whose name was not released – was operating a bucket truck on Saturday morning, cleaning up leaves on Greenway Road. The front blade of the front-end loader truck clipped a raised manhole cover, causing the truck to stop suddenly.
The force of the abrupt stoppage propelled the driver forward, causing injuries, Miller said. The windshield was pushed out of the vehicle, Miller said.
The worker, a foreman, was taken to Valley Hospital.
"The injuries are not life-threatening and he is home," DPW director Bob Tirserio told Patch Monday afternoon. "It's just one of those freak accidents."
Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $300, Tirserio said. It's not yet clear when the worker will be able to return to work.

Hopefully, the DPW worker will recover soon. The town needs to implement real reform on how it picks up fall leaves.

Now IS the time to talk about leaf pickup etc as it is potentially extremely dangerous driving on many area streets. This has been a problem for years, long before any hurricane . Leaf pickup or lack thereof will eventually lead to an accident as a small child especially may be shielded from sight by the large piles. I have seen cars even driving slowly skid as well. This can be avoided with timely and more frequent pick up. I have called DPW about dangerous overhanging branches and have gotten nowhere .Rene...the election is over and there is no political agenda except probably for you. Sorry all is not perfect. How about looking at the safety for our kids instead of looking through rose colored glasses??

its like that. Have a nice holiday. TWO different issues. This guy has run for office twice, and I respect that, but this article was about an accident, and leaf removal had NOTING to do with this. It was a raised manhole cover. I agree the leave issue is a safety hazard, you don't have to be a brain surgeon to figure that out, but there is also the commons sense responsibility of being cautious driving this time of year as well. Have a happy thanksgiving and be safe.
