Glen Rock Officer Struck During Motor Vehicle Stop

A 77-year-old Fair Lawn woman was issued a citation for careless driving after her mirror struck Ptl. Adam Pyatak Tuesday morning.

A Glen Rock police officer very narrowly missed being injured during a traffic stop Tuesday morning, according to police.

Motorcycle division officer Ptl. Adam Pyatak stopped a vehicle in front of Central School on Maple Avenue at approximately 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Cpt. Jonathan Miller. While speaking to the driver, the passenger's side mirror of a passing vehicle struck Pyatak.

The mirror struck the officer's gun belt, absorbing much of the impact, Miller said. Although he suffered some bruising, Pyatak was able to continue through his shift.

The operator of the vehicle, a 77-year-old Fair Lawn woman, was issued several traffic citations, including one for careless driving.

The driver's miscalculation very likely could have resulted in Pyatak being "squished between the tires," Miller said. "He's very lucky it wasn't worse."
