Glen Rock Teacher Contract Dispute Over $94K, Report Says

School board and teacher's union to see state mediator on April 22.

The yet-to-be-ratified Glen Rock teacher contract is being held up by a $94,532 salary guide disrepancy in the 2014-2015 school year, according to a report in the Glen Rock Gazette.

School board officials and teachers lauded the agreement in September as a win-win for both sides. Teachers and support staff were to see a 1.9 percent raise in 2012-2013, a 2.9 percent raise in 2013-2014 and a 2.3 percent raise in 2014-2015.

But it was never signed, and the dispute is now heading to a state mediator on April 22.

The Glen Rock Board of Education and the Glen Rock Education Association (GREA) each filed claims with the state Public Employment Relations Commission, alleging the other side didn't play fair.

According to the complaints obtained by the Glen Rock Gazette, the school board agreed to $18,198,204 in salaries for 2014-2015. It later discovered that figure to be $94,532 higher than agreed upon, a half-percent difference.

But the union refused to change, citing a letter board secretary Michael Rinderknecht sent to GREA president Anne Camp that the guide was "acceptable."
