GRPD: 'Thank You' to Officers Who Tirelessly Braved Hurricane Sandy

Unprecedented amount of calls in dangerous conditions were handled professionally and expeditiously by officers, police captain says.

The following letter to the editor was issued by Glen Rock Police Captain Jonathan Miller.

On behalf of Chief Stahman, I would like to thank the police officers of the GRPD who were on-duty from October 28th to November 4th as they worked tirelessly dealing with the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

The GRPD responded to an unprecedented number of emergency calls during that period of time & handled each call in an expeditious and professional manner, even when conditions were extremely dangerous. Mutual aid assistance with our neighboring towns was not an option as they too were overwhelmed.

When there was a lull in activity, our officers were rechecking hazardous conditions, going door-to-door making sure that those who could not get out were checked on, moving limbs to open roads and checking barricades, just to name a few.

The PD was not out there alone.

The extraordinary efforts put forth by our Fire Department, OEM, EMS, DPW, Dispatch Center, volunteer auxiliary police officers, as well as the Board of Education’s Maintenance Department all deserve equal recognition. Each agency worked side-by-side to handle every call and meet the community’s needs.

Thank you all. Our police, fire, EMT's and DPW workers did a great job under what I feel are the worst conditions Glen Rock has ever seen.
