Village Woman Accused of Threatening to Shoot Medical Office Employee
Sherryl Piroso allegedly told a doctor's office employee she would "get a gun and shoot her" on Friday.
A Ridgewood woman is facing terroristic threat charges for allegedly threatening to shoot a doctor's office employee on Friday.
Sherryl Piroso, 62, called a doctor's office at 1200 East Ridgewood Avenue around 11:30 a.m. and said she would "get a gun and shoot her," Ridgewood Police Det. Chris McDowell told Patch.
Further details of the alleged incident could not be released due to HIPPA laws, McDowell said.
The employee filed a citizen's complaint with the Ridgewood Police Department. Judge David Pfund found enough probable cause to initiate an arrest, police said.
Piroso was charged with making terroristic threats, a third degree offense. She faces an upcoming appearance at Ridgewood Municipal Court.

This threat, though illegal (and stupid), is hardly a "terrorist" threat. To use this term in this silly case is to demean the real act of terrorism. It is time to leave the paranoid Bush years behind. The other two comments have the right attitude: the woman making the threat was not quite in her right mind. While we might say the same holds for the terrorist pilots of 9/11, they actually were terrorists!

William -
While I think I understand where you are coming from. I'm not sure I follow your logic.
Someone threatened to kill someone else -- and because she possibly 'was not in her right mind' -- the threat is not to be taken seriously?
I don't think 'real' terrorists feel demeaned by labeling this threat to kill someone a "terroristic threat".

And you think that threating to shoot someone, should be taken lightly? Oh sure that could never happen... not in a school, not at a campus and certainly not in Ridgewood,,, say at the Post Office. How quickly you forget! Some people ARE crazy.

Just a little info
2C:12-3. Terroristic threats.
a. A person is guilty of a crime of the third degree if he threatens to commit any crime of violence with the purpose to terrorize another or to cause evacuation of a building, place of assembly, or facility of public transportation, or otherwise to cause serious public inconvenience, or in reckless disregard of the risk of causing such terror or inconvenience. A violation of this subsection is a crime of the second degree if it occurs during a declared period of national, State or county emergency. The actor shall be strictly liable upon proof that the crime occurred, in fact, during a declared period of national, State or county emergency. It shall not be a defense that the actor did not know that there was a declared period of emergency at the time the crime occurred.
b. A person is guilty of a crime of the third degree if he threatens to kill another with the purpose to put him in imminent fear of death under circumstances reasonably causing the victim to believe the immediacy of the threat and the likelihood that it will be carried out.

It seems there are a few people here who don't watch much news. In 2013 America, picking up the phone, calling someone, and threatening to shoot them is going to be taken very, very seriously. Duh.
