Maroons baseball bounces Comets before falling to West Milford

The Ridgewood lacrosse teams continue to rank up near the top of the state schools and that continued on Wednesday. The Ridgewood girls stayed undefeated at 6-0 with an 18-11 victory over previous undefeated Vernon at home.

And on Saturday the two teams might have been several miles away from each other but the Ridgewood lacrosse squads had something in common. The Maroons lacrosse was able to defeat Mountain Lakes, a pair of very good lacrosse teams, in a sweep.

At home the Ridgewood boys had an 8-4 lead and held on in the fourth quarter for a 10-7 victory at Mountain Lakes.

Ridgewood had a balanced attack as four Maroons scored a pair of goals in Peter Reuter, Max Luing, Garcia Logan and Garrett Clarke.

In goal Noah Pounds made 11 saves to preserve the victory for Ridgewood.

In Mountain Lakes, the Lady Maroons pulled away in the second half to take the 12-7 win over the Thundering Herd.

The victory gave Ridgewood a 9-1 record.

Nick Coppolla helped Ridgewood to a 4-2 victory over Northern Highlands at home in a Big North battle.

The Maroons went ahead 3-0 with the help of a three-RBI hit by Coppolla in the bottom of the fifth inning.

After the Highlands cut the Ridgewood lead to one in the sixth inning, the Maroons received an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning via an RBI by Cooper Byrne.

Ridgewood's Tucker Rekucki raised his record on the mound to 2-1 on the season.
In the 10-4 victory over Bergen Tech at home on April 14, Doug Licitra had a huge game with a home run, double and collecting four RBI. The Maroons led 5-0 by the third inning to have the Big North game under control. Tanner also had a big game for Ridgewood with four RBI to support pitcher Kevin Skettini.

The Maroons, however, were defeated in a on Thursday. Ridgewood was able to load the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning but could not plate a run, losing to West Milford 5-4.

Softball

After a layoff of five days Ridgewood rebounded with a 6-0 victory at home against Hackensack in a Big North game at home.

Maroons Nicole Hroncich scattered six hits to get the shutout in the circle.
As it turned out Ridgewood (3-4) only needed two runs in the bottom of the first inning to capture the team's third victory of the season.

The Maroons has three triples on the day one each from Lauren Tom, Margo Tanner and Claire Dennis. Dennis also chipped in a pair of RBI.

Before the contest with Hackensack, rain and Paramus spoiled the Ridgewood softball team's recent battles.

Three games were cancelled in the last week including a much-anticipated battle with Indian Hills in the Emerson Tourney on Sunday that was rained out.
Contests with Bergen Tech on April 12 and Northern Highlands on April 18 were all postponed.

The lone contest came on April 15 against softball powerhouse Paramus and the Spartans were rude guests. The Lady Maroons could only muster four hits off of Paramus pitcher Tori Feorenzo as Ridgewood dropped a 9-0 decision to the Lady Spartans.

The game was still close for the Maroons as they were down only 3-0 heading into the fifth inning, but Paramus slugger Victoria Vergona hit a grand slam off Ridgewood pitcher Nicole Hroncich to put away the Maroons.
