Website Ranks Travell as Top 10 Elementary School in NJ

Coleman in Glen Rock and Somerville in Ridgewood also rated as two of New Jersey's best grammar schools, according to schooldigger.com

Travell and Somerville elementary schools, as well as Coleman Elementary in Glen Rock, were among the top 20 elementary schools in the state in 2011-2012, according to school ranking website schooldigger.com.

Drawing from performance data from the New Jersey Department of Education, Travell Elementary was ranked the 9th best grammar school in the state. Coleman grabbed the 17th spot, with Somerville right behind it at #19.

Third and fourth-grade students from all three schools showed high proficiency in mathematics, each scoring above 96 percent on average in the ASK evaluation tests. Language arts proficiency for all three was between 88 and 90 percent.

Travell students averaged a 188.7 on the combined ASK tests, with Somerville and Coleman each garnering a combined 185.8 on the tests.

Coleman jumped 115 spots in the rankings from the previous year, while Somerville fell three spots from 2010-2011. Travell was up 13 spots from the prior year.

Also in the top 30 were Glen Rock's Central School (#22), Byrd School (#24, tie), along with Willard (#24, tie) and Ridge (#28) in Ridgewood.
