School board talks teacher evaluations, will ratify Fishbein's contract

On Monday, the Ridgewood Board of Education is expected to ratify a 5-year contract with Superintendent Dan Fishbein. The meeting will also feature presentations on teacher evaluations, a discussion on the district's leadership structure, the high school library project, and the refunding of $5.5M in bonds from 2004.

The Ridgewood Village Council will also be meeting this week. There may be an update to the ongoing Tom Riche business-conflict debate. There were indications last week the matter might be referred to an outside agency, possibly the prosecutor's office or the Department of Community Affairs. Oh, and did I mention the public hearing for the 2013 budget will be going down on Wednesday? Here's some more on that.

The Kasschau Band Shell comes alive this week, with performances from the Harmony Celebration Chorus and the Richard Reiter Swing Band. Make sure to find a lawn chair and a blanket and dash over to Memorial Field Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Teacher contract clears hurdle in Glen Rock, AC upgrades in order

Over in Glen Rock, school officials appear to have reached an agreement with the union on ratifying a new teacher contract. A dispute over the last year in the 2014-2015 salary guide prompted the two sides to head to arbitration. On Monday, the board will also recognize its top student athletes of the year as well as its district teachers of the year. It appears likely the board will vote to approve $900,000 in HVAC upgrades to Byrd, Central, Coleman and Hamilton.

How many cops are needed in town?

Other stories this week include an analysis of police staffing levels in Ridgewood. With 39 current sworn officers, Ridgewood is at its lowest staffing level in decades. And that number could fall considerably in the next two years.
