Caytha Jentis heads to France to provide a sneak peak of her new sports-centric satire film "Bad Parents" on May 16.
Filmmaker Caytha Jentis is bringing a trailer of her new comedy "Bad Parents" across the Atlantic for a run at international distributors at the world-renowned Cannes Film Market/Marche Du Film. The satirical film, shot in Ridgewood and Bloomingdale over the last year, is premised on the bad behavior sports parents can exhibit. "The movie is poking fun at sports parents," said Jentis, who wrote and directed the film. "The movie doesn't judge, it's satire but it's meant to be entertaining and create a dialogue as opposed to condemning." The film is set to be released stateside during the fall and is largely built around the award-winning play Jentis created several years ago. The film has a decidedly Bergen feel to it. Many of the investors…

"Making a Difference" will be released worldwide on Tuesday; pilot and author Chesley Sullenberger will be at Bookends signing copies.
Hero pilot Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger on Tuesday will be releasing his new leadership book and signing copies at Bookends at 7 p.m. Sullenberger gained international fame in January of 2009 when he safely commandeered U.S. Airways Flight 1549 into the Hudson River after a flock of geese struck and disabled the engines. All 155 passengers and crew survived, and the landing and subsequent rescue has been dubbed the 'miracle on the Hudson'. Sullenberger's second book, Making a Difference, chronicles effective leadership strategies from visionaries across various professions, including educator Michelle Rhee; baseball manager Tony LaRussa; NASA flight director Gene Kranz; former governor of Michigan Jennifer Granholm; and others. Event celebrates its 30th season.
When is a balloon festival not (just) a balloon festival? That’s a tough question, especially when a huge yearly event is billed as such (I mean, it's called the Festival of Ballooning, after all) and there certainly are plenty of hot-air balloons to be displayed. Still, the Quick Chek Festival of Ballooning—in its 30th year, running from July 27 through 29 at Solberg Airport in Readington—is also part amusement park, with a healthy number of rides, an arts-and-crafts emporium, a yoga and Zumba demonstration, and lots and lots of food. Of the 30 years, Quick Chek has been a major sponsor for 20. And for the first time, Patch is partnering with the festival to get you in at a great price. Between May 13 and 20, use this link to buy tickets …

Danielle Hernandez has danced for most of her life and now owns a store for other dancers.
Washington Township resident Danielle Hernandez has made a career out of dancing as a performer, teacher and — most recently — as the owner of a store selling clothes, shoes and other gear dancers need. Hernandez said her store, On 1 Dancewear, started partially because her father was selling a clothing line called Salsa Gear. When the store opened in 2010, she said she wanted to expand to include other brands. They now carry about 20 different brands and cater to dancers, gymnasts and figure skaters from any age or proficiency level. Customers have come from as far away as Harriman, N.Y. for specific items they carry, Hernandez said. "I try to have a little bit of everything," Hernandez said. "I don't want any customers to leave …

Forty-five films will be showcased for Wednesday and Thursday's red carpet event.
The Ridgewood Guild is rolling out the red carpet on Wednesday and Thursday for the second annual Ridgewood Film Festival. Last year's premiere event generated considerable interest and organizer Tony Damiano says the second take will be bigger and badder. "We're doing these film festivals because they're such an adrenaline rush," the Guild head and owner of Mango Jam said. "This one promises to be better than last year." A total of 45 films will be shown at the Clearview Warner Theater smack dab in Ridgewood's downtown for the two-day event. Films include world premieres, foreign flicks from Australia, student films and lauded flicks from the festival circuit. Local filmmaker Caytha Jentis will be unveiling a 10-minute trailer for comedy…

Ben Prawer and Jesse Swedlund are the creators of "Ty's List," a documentary film designed to capture the spirit of their friend Tyler Lorenzi, who died in a boating accident in 2011.
A California kid who tragically passed away last year in a boating accident is the inspiration for a documentary film produced by his best friends, one a native of Glen Rock. Northwestern film students Ben Prawer, of Glen Rock, and friend Jesse Swedlund, are creating "Ty's List," a docu-adventure capturing the interests and spirit of friend Tyler Lorenzi. "Tyler was my hero because he wasn't afraid to show people he cared about them," Prawer says in the documentary preview. "He was always up for an adventure and could see the positive in any situation. His death served as a wake-up call to stop taking things for granted and start taking the risks that make life worth living." Lorenzi, a 23-year-old engineer at NASA who graduated from NU in…
