Four Tweaks to Glen Rock Home Page May Increase Utilization

If you elect me to the Glen Rock Borough Council, I will improve the home page of the Glen Rock website. My proposed changes would enhance usability of the site, increase visibility of important items, and encourage more users to sign up for town alerts. Utilizing my 15 years of experience in website development, I can implement these changes quickly:

1) Relocate the large, unchanging pictures. While pretty to look at, they offer no functional value and should be shrunk and relocated to less visible space.

2) Move the News and Announcements section to a more visible location. Its current location in the lower left area of the page makes it easy to miss important information.

3)  Add a static section to the home page and put critical information there. Currently, important news has to be re-uploaded to force it to the top of the News and Announcements list. Critical news sometimes gets buried and may be hard to find.

4) Freshen up the appearance of the website by changing the copyright notice at the bottom of the page from 2010 to the current year.

Patch readers, what are your suggestions to improve the Glen Rock home page?

I've know Howard for many years and feel honored to be able to call him a friend. He's honest, hard working and full of good ideas as the above article shows.

These changes all sound good but have you tried communicating with the webmaster about potentially making the changes or considering them? I recently had notified them about a change that was needed and it was made within a few hours along with a detailed email back to me with additional helpful info. It seems like it is a work in progress (agreed that it is long overdue) but my impression was that change is on the way and they are open to input.

I give credit to anyone who is willing to step up and run for a thankless job, but I don't consider this towns website to be an issue. I seriously doubt it is on top of the web surfing favorites of most residents.

I believe that a town website should play a critical role in helping a town better communicate with residents.

Thank you Howard for your suggestions. It just so happens that changes are planned for the home page, which has been mentioned in work sessions of the Mayor and Council. Please come talk to us any time about your concerns and ideas. You and your ideas would be welcome. Its also a good way to get up to date information on the other issues facing the town. .

Thank you, Pam. It would be great if you could get this up-to-date information on the home page.

Sounds like Mr. Fox is out of the loop a little bit.
