Glen Rock Installs Anti-Idling Signs
Kudos to Cindy Mehallow and Naomi Gamorra of the Glen Rock Environmental Commission (GREC) for spearheading the effort to install anti-idling signs during New Jersey Air Quality Awareness Week.
Vehicles may not sit idling for more than 3 minutes, according to the law, which should reduce pollution greatly. This is especially important since one of the areas that this is most prevalent is in front of schools.

Well intentioned but impractical. Are we going to increase our property taxes to pay for monitors to sit in front of every school in town with a stop watch to time how long Mom or Dad sits with their motor running? Perhaps our cross guards should be tasked with doing this so they can pay less attention to children in the crosswalks? This is yet another feel good law which is unenforceable & a waste of the taxpayers money.

The J.C.Lee comment is 100% correct ! We have lived GR over 30 years and visited friends of our family since the 1950's. We need MORE signs? to placate yet another "Commission" in Glen Rock (like the GREC) ? If we already have a law, then there is no need for MORE SIGNS in our small town. And certainly...there is NO need to ONCE AGAIN highlight problem "in front of schools" to justify another environmental/liberal agenda. Article referenced some law ? that "vehicles may not sit idling for more than 3 minutes"...really ? As J.C.Lee stated This is "yet another.. waste ot the taxpayers money".

Can you imagine sitting in a pristine park like the County Duck Pond in Glen Rock and having cars in the parking lot idling their motors? Not only do the running motors pollute the air but the noise drowns out the song of birds and other wild life. Who will post signs in the two parking lots in the park? I have asked the Bergen County Parks Department twice and there is no response.

You are kidding ...right ? Why don't you go post your own signs ? What running motors are you referring too ? We go there often...cannot ever hear motor noise or smell polution when walking in the park...other than our own while trying find parking spot. By the way....the County "Duck Pond" is located in Ridgewood. The County Park access in Glen Rock is equally beautiful, and "running" motors not creating polution there either.

Agreed that idling autos are a problem. But is the answer to this problem adding more signs to town?
Some signs around town:
Rock Rd. Business district- No left turn into parking.
Speed Limit.- 25 MPH
Various- No Right on Red
Various- No Parking
Rock Rd- Yield to Pedestrians
Pool- Badges Required
Commuter Parking- Resident permit required.
Have signs fixed any of these issues?

Who cares about the signs? Let's care that we are eliminating the idling which causes pollution! Let's get to the point of this... instead of worrying about a sign!
