I pulled up in my driveway to see Asplundh cutting our cherished oak tree. Whilst I recognize some trees are in harm's way and or a serious potential nuisance, this one is not.
In addition, we have it trimmed safely by Sav-a-Tree annually. We trust Sav-a-Tree because they care for our safety. Big Bully PSEG is concerned in an ultra conservative case about their wires.
Well Didgewoodonians. I ask you. At what point do we give up our civil liberties and ownership rights and at what point does the town start to look like Elmwood Park and or other towns?
As always, we are OVERREACTING to a situation and we are destroying our precious Ridgewood Landscape. I explore common sense. Not over reaction, no trees or extractive trees. We can have oaks and maple trees. Just have limitations that are common sense. Like is it bigger than 70 feet on town property? Is it rotting? Come on, people! Let's control our rights and preserve our landscape.
Haven't you had enough that every day we pass a new law to address the 1% idiot vs the 99% of us that have common sense and the sense of responsibility? That means everyday we give up a freedom. If you see a tree company on your street, stop and ask them if they are going to trim your trees.
One last thing, the employee had the audacity to call me a *&& hole. I looked and said, you must be kidding me. You come to my house, come on my property and start cutting my tree and you have an attitude? Wow!

To be clear they are not PSE&G Employees... If a tree contracting company employee gave attitude, or you believe they are acting wrongly you should report it to PSEG with as much detail as possible. PSEG tries to hold its contractors to the same standards as its employees, and thus should take appropriate action.

I know. I said it was the tree service.

They can only trim trees that are within the Town right of way without permission. If the tree branches that are trimmed meet that standard, they are doing their job. If they go beyond the right of way, in some jurisdictions, you may be entitled to treble damages. Unfortunately, tree trimming is necessary and usually the biggest whiners are towns like Ridgewood which doesn't want trees trimmed yet after a storm complain about the outages resulting from downed tree branches.

Where do you live that only 1% of the people are idiots? I'd like to move there.

Am I to believe that this company is just running roughshod throughout the town cutting down residents limbs because they get a kick out of it. Or does the author Greg Osborn considered himself privileged and does believe the same rules apply to him. The only overreaction i see here is the to Mr. Osborn crying about it

I think if it was your tree and not the towns. You would be privileged. Don't confuse rights and owner respect of property with being privileged. I'm far from privileged buddy. I'm trying to preserve our esthetic value. To bad you kiss the point all together this isn't personal.

pseg can the town can cut any tree that is a town tree. they don't need your permission - i wish they would come cut mine! i have found pseg workers to be polite and respectful- i feel that people will react to being treated by the way the are apporached- if you go at someone negatively or harshly my guess you will be met by the same tone- treat others how you expect to be treated-

It was not a town tree. That's the point of the story. And the difference is. I did not want it cut.
