DESCRIPTION:The Northern New Jersey Affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Ac
 tion Network will host an Awareness Night with the Somerset Patriots as 
 they take on the Camden Riversharks to raise awareness and funds for pan
 creatic cancer research.&nbsp\; The awareness event will take place on J
 uly 15\, 2012 at TD Bank Ballpark at 5:05 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and 
 are available for purchase online at www.pancan.org/newjersey.&nbsp\; A 
 portion of each ticket sold will benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Ne
 twork.\n&ldquo\;We are thrilled to continue this relationship with theSo
 merset Patriots for the third year in a row\,&rdquo\; said Northern New 
 Jersey Co-Affiliate Coordinator Nicole Trella\, who lost her mother-in-l
 aw to the disease.&nbsp\; &ldquo\;So much needs to be done to improve th
 e staggering statistics associated with pancreatic cancer.&nbsp\; Events
  like this are one step in creating hope that one day this disease will 
 be a thing of the past.&rdquo\;\nThere will be an information table at t
 he event that fanswill be able to visit to learn more about the disease 
 and find out how they can join the fight against pancreatic cancer.&nbsp
 \; Fans and supporters attending the game are encouraged to wear purple\
 , the symbol of hope and awareness for pancreatic cancer.\nPancreatic ca
 ncer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States an
 d has the lowest relative survival rate among leading cancer killers. Th
 is devastating disease has claimed the lives of many public figures\, in
 cluding Apple co-founder Steve Jobs\, actor Patrick Swayze\, Nobel Prize
  winner Dr. Ralph Steinman\, Carnegie Mellon University Professor Dr. Ra
 ndy Pausch\, actor Michael Landon\, and opera tenor Luciano Pavarotti.\n
 This year nearly 44\,000 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic can
 cer and more than 37\,000 will die from the disease.&nbsp\; The five yea
 r relative survival rate is just six percent and has remained largely un
 changed in the last forty years because early detection tools and effect
 ive treatments have yet to be developed.&nbsp\; Despite these sobering s
 tatistics\, approximately two percent of theNational Cancer Institute&rs
 quo\;s federal research funding is allocated to pancreatic cancer.\nTo l
