Homeless Pets Need Santa Too!

The 18th Annual “Homeless Pets Need Santa Too” Food and Toy Drive has begun!  For the entire month of November and December, toys and food will be collected at area veterinarians for distribution to the Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge, Bergen County Animal Shelter and the Center for Food Action.

“We began this 1996 in Palm Beach for South Florida’s homeless dogs to have some toys to play with at the shelter and donations have grown so we now collect the food not only for the shelter but also for the Center for Food Action which helps hungry families feed the pets they have.” said, Babette Haggerty, local dog trainer.  “Last year we brought three truckloads of supplies to Sandy victims at the Jersey Shore and Gerritsen Beach, New York.  “That was when I began the Captain Haggerty Foundation for Dogs”.  Named for former Upper Saddle River resident and dog training pioneer, Captain Haggerty (see Obituaries July, 3, 2006), which helps “Four legged warriors get back on all fours”.

Collection boxes are at the Saddle River Animal Hospital, Woof Gang Bakery in Allendale, Ramsey Veterinary Hospital and The Spotted Dog in Oakland.  If you need to have your donation picked up, please call 201-800-3105.
