'Afghan Women’s Writing Project' Founder to Give Ridgewood Reading

Masha Hamilton will be in the village Monday night to read selected works from the AWWP.

Monday night, stories about Afghan women are coming to Ridgewood.

The village public library is hosting Masha Hamilton, journalist, author, and founder of The Afghan Women’s Writing Project, to read selected poems, essays, and stories from the work.

Hamilton started the Afghan Women’s Writing Project in 2009 in an effort to bring the stories of Afghan women to light.

“AWWP believes that to tell one’s story is a human right, and this work testifies to the bravery of Afghan women and to the power of their words,” the organization says on its website.

Hamilton will be at the library along with AWWP staff members and local Ridgewood students to conduct the readings Monday night starting at 7 p.m.
