Black Bear Tranquilized, Captured [Photos]
Police chased a small bear up a tree Sunday. It's the second bear capture this week in Ridgewood.
Hours after leading Ridgewood police on a dramatic chase through back yards, main streets and wooded areas, a small black bear was safely captured late Sunday afternoon.
A one-year-old black bear, weighing roughly 130 lbs., was tranquilized by state Fish & Wildlife authorities from his perch on a tree near the Community Garden on Meadowbrook Avenue.
First spotted in Paramus early Sunday morning, police chased the bear from the Ridgewood-Paramus border toward the Community Garden on Meadowbrook Ave., where the bear scaled a tree and remained for about four hours. The bear appeared to be sleeping for much of the standoff.

Carol Tyler, of Tyco Animal Control, said the bear is expected to be tagged and released into the wild in the Sussex/Morris County area.
On Tuesday, police and wildlife authorities tranquilized a yearling black bear in a Bellair Road tree.
