Snow Causes Closings, Cancellations in Ridgewood and Glen Rock

Winter weather threw a wrench into schedules Tuesday afternoon as a blanket of snow fell on Ridgewood and Glen Rock.

Public schools in both towns announced early dismissals ahead of the storm, the second to hit the region this year. Both districts used their first snow day of the school year when a blizzard blew through New Jersey Jan. 3. Afternoon activities in both districts were also cancelled.

The Ridgewood and Glen Rock public libraries closed at 2 p.m. and noon, respectively. Municipal offices in the borough closed at noon, and Ridgewood Village Hall closed at 3:30 p.m.

A Ridgewood Planning Board meeting scheduled for 7:30 p.m. was cancelled in anticipation of continuing snow. On the agenda was a review of a proposed shade tree ordinance and a discussion of updating the North Walnut Street redevelopment plan. The latter topic was first on the agenda Dec. 17, for another meeting cancelled due to snow.

The Borough of Glen Rock advised that residents expecting trash collection to place cans curbside only after 6 a.m. Wednesday. Pick-ups were scheduled to continue as planned beginning at 8 a.m. Ridgewood residents were asked to place their cans curbside by 6 a.m.

A winter weather advisory remained in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday. Forecasters expected the storm to intensify in the evening hours of Tuesday, with up to ten inches of snow expected.
