Appreciate Bergen's fascinating history? Well, you'll be able to bask in it on May 21 for the First Annual Northwest Bergen History Day Tour, featuring tours of all the excellent museums in Ridgewood, Ho-Ho-Kus, Wyckoff, Mahwah and nearby communities.
Hosted by the Coalition of Northwest Bergen History Societies, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. eight historical homes and museums will be open for visitors. The exhibits and artifacts tell the complex and colorful lives of people living in Bergen County during the 18th and 19th century.
The eight sites are:
- 650 East Glen Avenue, Ridgewood
- The Hermitage 335 North Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus
- The Fell House 475 Franklin Turnpike, Allendale
- The Hopper-Goetschius Museum 363 East Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River
- The Old Stone House 538 Island Road, Ramsey
- The Mahwah Museum 201 Franklin Turnpike, Mahwah
- The Van Allen House 3 Franklin Avenue, Oakland
- The Zabriskie House 421 Franklin Avenue, Wyckoff
Tickets for admission to all eight sites are $10 per person, and youngsters under the age of 12 get in free. Tickets can be purchased through the Coalition's history societies now, with sales also at the Schoolhouse Museum on Thursdays and Saturdays, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m., respectively.
If you're around Wyckoff, Franklin Lakes, tickets can also be found at Abma's Farm Monday through Saturday (8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.); and if you sneak over to the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn while you're grabbing a beer and a meal, they can be found there too.
Speaking of meals, The Coalition will be selling grilled hot dogs and soda at the picnic area at the Hopper-Goetschius House Museum in Upper Saddle River on May 21. That might be an added incentive to go, right? Here's another, if you're not convinced yet – both Ridgewood and Mahwah's museums as top museums in the county for its recent exhibits.
If you'd rather purchase by mail, send a request and a self-addressed stamped envelope to The Schoolhouse Museum at 650 East Glen Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ 07450 and make sure the check is payable to the Ridgewood Historical Society.
All proceeds from the ticket sales will be equally divided among the members of the Coalition of NW Bergen County History Societies.
