'Jersey Shore' Canceled By MTV

Final season will begin airing in October

Love or hate its rambunctious cast, the show that made Seaside Heights famous - or, at least, infamous - is going off the air.

MTV announced Thursday afternoon its hit series "Jersey Shore" will end after a recently-taped season airs this fall.

The sixth season of the series, which since 2009 has chronicled the oft-drunken misadventures of eight 20-somethings living in a house on Ocean Terrace in Seaside Heights, will premier Oct. 4 at 10 p.m.

The network will air "Gym, Tan, Look Back" as part of a farewell marathon Sept. 6, and the cast will make an appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards that night.

The network has not given a reason why the series is ending.

In addition to the well-documented antics at local night spots such as Karma, Aztec and The Beachcomber Bar and Grill, three cast members wound up in handcuffs over the last several summers the show has taped in Ocean County.

Cast member Ronnie Ortiz-Magro was accepted into the state's pretrial intervention program after being charged with aggravated assault, and Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Deena Cortese both were arrested and paid fines relating to borough ordinance violations in Seaside for nuisance behavior.

Most recently, Polizzi and fellow cast member Jennifer "J-Woww" Farley have to tape episodes of spin-off program "Snooki and J-Woww" in Manchester after and .

First off it's in THERE not THEIR ... second - Jersey shore Kids grow up to be Real Housewives of NJ .. Lastly - its easily just as bad as any show out there with a garbage premise like Housewives , the Hoarders or any of these other junk tv shows that allow you to kinda sorta make up a script as you go to help improvise and move along a "live action" story

Nordrom, yes it does speak volumes about me, it means I gave a new show a chance to entertain me... because I like to be entertained. It might be your 2nd language, but maybe you should learn to read English better, I clearly implied that I no longer watch the show, and haven't in quite some time. And, like Doug said, your use of the word wasn't any more proper than mine. And why did get so offended by me talking negatively about the show anyway? Get a life.

"I want my MTV...." ....to start playing music again

Sorry you think what they were doing was fun. It was nothing but obscene, drunken disgusting sex and porn along with desecration of the reputation of The Italian Heritage and reputation. We need to teach our children self respect so they act with decency and respect of themselves, others and others property along with morality and not sleeping with everything that looks at them. I hope Snookie takes her responsibilities as a mother and parent seriously and doesn't ruin that baby nor it's father, maybe she will grow up? Time to keep your life private and get off the air too.

You're knocking someone for having a nervous breakdown by calling them a loser...takes one to know one I suppose.

Never watch one second of ANY of the (lack of anything even near) "reality" shows / garbage --- I guess all those wonderfully talented young men and women can now go back to their former careers as --- (you fill in the blanks -- some have already done a pretty good job of it !!) --- and, just think of all the extra time they will have at their disposal (actually, "their disposal" is a great thing for NJ !!), since they no longer have to stage all that outrageous, publicity-seeking behavior off the set.

The Sopranos is different. I don't think that show trashed Italians.
Chica August 31, 2012 at 04:40 PM
All of ya should just stay quite, you are all reason why the cast in where there at now.. HIGH TV RATINGS make there pockets fill up with money and open opurtunities for better things for them to do.. Crazy how you can judge someone by the opurtinitie they were offered.. Dont be mad for MTV not putting you on the cast of Jeresy shore.. because if they did you probaly act just like them or more...
William Mays August 31, 2012 at 04:44 PM
I'm sorry but if I was offered that opportunity, I would never accept it, because unlike them, I've had a real job for a while.
Baba O'Riley August 31, 2012 at 05:10 PM
To Billy Mays on your post of 12:08 pm on Friday, August 31, 2012: Every Italian (male) on the show was a criminal. Most ran around on their wives or primary girlfiends. Some were alcoholics and / or drug addicts. You tell me if Italians were trashed or not.
William Mays August 31, 2012 at 05:17 PM
I watched the Sopranos during its whole run, still didn't make me think any different on Italians. If it trashed them so much, why do so many Italian businesses in NJ have cast member autographs on their walls.

As a parent I would not be so proud of my kids if they were on any of these reality shows. I would be embarrassed.
robert olson August 31, 2012 at 06:44 PM
all reality shows are for mindless stay at home people in general!
robert olson August 31, 2012 at 06:50 PM
when i was growing up long ago,we didnt act half as bad as the brainless Jersey Shore.
robert olson August 31, 2012 at 06:52 PM
Like Snooki? Do you act like her too?
Baba O'Riley August 31, 2012 at 07:04 PM
To the Billy Mays 1:17 pm on Friday, August 31, 2012 comment: So you are saying that the portrayal of Italians on the Soprano's was correct that every Italian male is a criminal,... Many businesses (not just Italian owned businesses) have signed photographs of sports, political and entertainment figures on their walls (even Double Scoop, a Korean owned business); means nothing.
William Mays August 31, 2012 at 07:11 PM
Thats not what I meant, I meant that it didn't change my view that Italian-Americans are just as honorable as anyone else.
Baba O'Riley August 31, 2012 at 07:37 PM
To the Billy Mays 3:11 pm on Friday, August 31, 2012 post: Gotcha!

Chica...go back to school. Your use of English is an embarrassment.

The Fonzi scheme that the producers of the show hid for 3 years was finally uncovered by federal regulators in the past week. Charges for gRand larceny and shopping the Poodle are soon to be filed
Kellie September 01, 2012 at 02:24 AM
o.O I thought you were dead. ;)
Kellie September 01, 2012 at 02:33 AM
He wasn't putting down Italians. He was saying that the cast of JS was a "black eye" for Italians - meaning, they make Italians look bad. They won't be on TV anymore "one less black eye for NJ and Italians". That's how I took it anyway. I'm Italian too, BTW.
Kellie September 01, 2012 at 02:46 AM
@Billy Mays - No, The Sopranos didn't trash Italians but, it definitely stereotyped Italians from NJ. When the show was popular, every time I would tell someone that I'm an Italian from NJ, close to alot of areas the show was filmed (I live 5-10 minutes from where "Bada Bing" was filmed and about 20 minutes from the Sopranos house, etc.), I would get A TON of questions about seeing the cast, filming, landmarks, am I in the mafia, etc. The show didn't "trash" Italians but, it DID give Italians from NJ in particular a certain facade.

Can aomeone please translate Chica's comment into English so we can read what pearls of wisdom she has to impart?
Susan Grimes September 08, 2012 at 01:35 AM
I liked it because it was everything you all say it was. . it was fun, silly and just darn dumb--but it did show how the summers at the Jersey Shore are more magical than anywhere else in the country. . and for that we are really the Thunder Road.
diamond. November 07, 2012 at 05:26 PM
look your all dumb alright, no one is making you watch anything. you want to listen to somethin , turn on the radio, dont watch tv. that blows speakers k, if you dont want your kids actin like them, then dont let them watch it. just cause they have fun in there own way doesnt mean you need to be rude about it, thats there mistakes .. not yours. just stfu bout it. its pathetic
