Teams of five can sign up for scavenger hunt through the downtown.

You may see several small, costumed groups dashing around downtown Ridgewood on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Let us explain in advance.

The Halloween-themed scavenger hunt has groups of five face off in a race to collect items, answer local trivia and perform various challenges at 18 stops around the village’s central business district.

Guild founder Tony Damiano was tight-lipped on the details of the secret challenges, so curious residents will have to take to the starting line for the first clue, then unravel the mystery themselves over the three-hour race.

“They don’t know what they’re getting into,” he said. But he did assure Patch that no extraordinary physical feats are involved.

Registration is $50 per person, which will include the costs of shopping-oriented challenges in the race, as well as a $100 donation made by each group to a charity of their choice.

Damiano said that bringing residents around town to find clues at local merchants fits the guild’s overarching goal of raising awareness of all that downtown Ridgewood has to offer.

“The idea is basically to support the businesses in town,” he said. “As it happened last year, some of our participating people visited stores they hadn’t been to before.”

The race will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., with a happy hour following at another undisclosed location. For more information about the race and how to register, visit the Ridgewood Guild’s website.
