Ridgewood HS Wrestlers Perform "Harlem Shake"

Internet "dance" sensation has generated more than 175 million views.

Ridgewood wrestlers are getting down with the explosive internet dance phenomenon "The Harlem Shake."

On Feb. 14, around the height of the viral trend, YouTube user "Kyle Inlander" uploaded a version.

Inlander's 30-second video showcases Ridgewood High School wrestling team members pelvic thrusting, flailing, jumping, and shaking to electronic musician Baauer's hit song, "Harlem Shake."

It has received 5,460 views and contains all of the touchtones of the global internet meme. A masked dancer kicks off the intro. A quick jump cut follows with one camera angle to capture the "dancing" at the high school gymnasium.

The video is one of tens of thousands like it to be uploaded to YouTube in recent weeks. The staff of Anderson Cooper "horrified" the news anchor and daytime TV host with their rendition. Not wanting to feel left out, the Today Show anchors then proceeded to horrify the nation on Feb. 13.

Corporations, marketing pros, senior citizen groups, The Dallas Mavericks, and even a Norwegian army unit have also joined the e-fray of Shakers, making it a meme with no end in sight.

Must be a reaction to 1.) the decision to remove wrestling from the Olympics. 2.) a long season 3.) both. The guys on the walls are a nice touch.

No wonder there is so much divisiveness in this town. These kids are simply having some harmless fun by jumping on the internet meme bandwagon. Granted, it’s not my taste, but people really need to chill out.

Agree with JAFO. Wrestling is a tremendously demanding sport, both physically and mentally, and they're just having some harmless fun. On the plus side, they don't look like they've been spending too much time playing video games.
