Two Records on Tap from Ridgewood Bands

New albums in the works from locals Real Estate and Ducktails.

Two of Ridgewood's most prominent musical acts are set soon to build on their signature sounds with new upcoming albums.

Martin Courtney, lead singer of local act Real Estate, recently told the Santa Barbara Independent, ahead of a string of West Coast dates, that a new album, the group's third, is mixed and nearing completion.

"There's an ideal sound in my mind that we're trying to achieve that's pretty specific to us," Courtney told the paper, adding that '70s sounds will figure heavily into the mix.

The band also recently released a teaser for the record. The clip, though short, shows the band sticking to its surf-rock roots, which earned the sought after "Best New Music" distinction from Pitchfork for both its first two releases.

No release date has been set yet, but if you're feeling anxious, Ducktails, the side project of Real Estate guitarist Matthew Mondanile, is previewing a song off a five-track EP to be released this month.

"Honey Tiger Eyes," off the forthcoming Wish Hotel, steps up the lo-fi psychadelia present in most of Real Estate's previous material.

Wish Hotel is out on Domino Records Oct. 21.
