Service Spotlight: Organic Treatment

The move to organic landscaping and related services is a growing trend in the landscaping industry. Organic landscaping is a natural and environmentally friendly way to control pests from the soil up, to protect turf and plantings without harming wildlife. Rather than rely on traditional methods which add toxins to the environment or use an over-reaching approach that can harm flora and fauna, Borst Landscape & Design recommends that landscapers:

· Spot treat with pesticides or herbicides rather than blanket spraying

· Use horticultural oils as pre-emergents

· Encourage beneficial soil organisms through natural means

· Inject trees locally rather than spray up into the canopy

· Alternate herbicides and pesticides to avoid plant resistance

Natural methods can also be used to deter hungry deer that try and feed on the property owner’s plantings. In fact, Borst team members have been educating homeowners on natural pest control alternatives and have been featured in local papers for their educational outreach on the subject.
