Millers Pharmacy Renovations Bring Heavy-Duty Crane to Township

3,000 lb steel support beams used in renovation

A family-owned pharmacy on Wyckoff Avenue was bustling early Saturday morning, but it wasn't busy with customers — Millers Pharmacy was busy dealing with a pair of 3,000 lb steel girders.

The pharmacy, which is in the middle of its first remodel since 1960, enlisted the help of Vergona Cranes to assist in moving the two support beams.

"The crane is going to be used to install steel girders in the first floor ceiling as part of the ongoing renovation project. This is not something you often see in the center of Wyckoff," said pharmacy owner David Miller.

Miller was on hand Saturday morning making sure customers stayed safely away from the construction area and, although technically closed while workers moved in the beams, Miller did his best to assist customers in need.

Miller, the current owner and operator of Millers, is the third generation to run this family-owned business.

Millers Pharmacy, located at 678 Wyckoff Ave. in Wyckoff, was founded in 1929 by David’s grandfather, pharmacist Robert Miller. David’s maternal grandfather, Simeon Einstein, was also a pharmacist and owned a pharmacy in Albany, NY, for more than fifty years, according to the pharmacy's website. David’s father and mother (Richard and Doris), both pharmacists, managed Millers Pharmacy for thirty years before David took the reins in 1985.

It's very gratifying, reading about local, family owned businesses that are thriving. Having survived generations of learning curves or struggling economic times. Congratulations.
