Lettuce Inn, Lettuce Out?

It appears as though the sandwich/salad shop on Chestnut Street in Ridgewood has closed.

On a rainy Tuesday afternoon in October, the doors at 26 Chestnut Street are closed. The chairs are up and the lights are out.

A few days ago, a sign on the door said Lettuce Inn was closed for vacation. The sign is gone now, and from the looks of it the small sandwich and salad shop has closed up for good.

Sources said the business, which opened in the spring, has been closed for about two weeks and won't be reopening.

No one picked up the phone at the Ridgewood store and an owner could not be reached for comment.

A Saladworks is scheduled to open up across the street in November to fill the salad void.

The soon-to-come salad shop will have an interactive allergen menu, a widget that allows customers to plug in what they're allergic to avoid certain menu items.

Bummer. It's nice to have healthy choices in town but they have to be done right. Anywhere else close by sell fresh pressed juices?

Hmm...haven't heard of fresh-pressed juices. I asked the question on Facebook, so check out the link to follow any answers that might come. (http://www.facebook.com/RidgewoodPatch/posts/473032406069614)

You aren't referring to Chestnut Deli? They are well establish, nice owner, good food, reasonably prices...

It's too bad. I went there several times and I thought if was very good. All of their food was made with fresh fruits and vegetables - all right in front of the consumer. But I only saw other patrons there once. An establishment like this needs customers to be successful.

Chestnut and Billy are NOT gone.....good people, good food.....when Lettuce inn opened the first thought that came to mind was "I'll give it 8 months" ...that's about right....these "business owners" whom come into town under the guise that, well, it's Ridgewood and well, what's the problem.....here's the problem...no business plan...flying by the seat of your pants and hoping that a town's reputation that has long since passed will help you support a business paying 80% of it's monthly revenue in rent in a formula for DISASTER....this vicious cycle will continue to be supported by the ridgewood bitty's that open shop's the same way and pay the same for overpriced real estate..(brain candy) et at al.....and no one's paying any attention to the details except the landlords.....E GADS....

No, as I wrote in the article the business I'm referring to is Lettuce Inn (next to Mekong Grill). Billy and Lu of Chestnut Deli are definitely not gone. They do good business over there.
