Lisa's Mediterranean Earns 'Good' Review from New York Times

New York Times food critic Scott Veale stopped in to Lisa's Mediterranean Cuisine in Ridgewood, and according to the review printed last week, quite a few dishes were to his liking.

The restaurant, which seven years ago opened as "Lisa's Turkish Kitchen" and has been in its spot at 28 Oak Street for ten months with the new name, earned a "good" rating from the grey lady.

While the review isn't at the top of the paper's ratings, the Times critic raved about some of the dishes on Lisa's menu, including the whole branzino and hunkar begendi, a lamb, chicken or gyro dish topped with smoked eggplant and kashar cheese.

The Times seemed not to have tried the hummus, which was voted third best in Bergen in a poll earlier this year.

Summing up the environment in the village restaurant, the paper wrote, "The crowds are coming, the atmosphere is welcoming, the prices are gentle, and the kitchen is turning out quite a few unexpected pleasures."
