Saladworks Opens in the Village

The menu includes fresh salads, sandwiches and soups for those looking to eat healthy.

As promised, health-centric Saladworks opened the doors Monday morning to the public.

A chain founded in New Jersey, Saladworks has more than 100 locations nationwide. The newest is at 37 Chestnut Street in Ridgewood.

"We will provide extremely fresh, made-to-order, entree-sized salads, sandwiches and soups as an alternative food offering for health conscious consumers on the go," franchise owner Bob Gallo Jr., a Ridgewood resident, said of the chain two weeks ago.

"We'll offer a large variety of flavorful salads with more than sixty natural ingredient offerings, signature dressings, proprietary soups and fusion and panini sandwiches. All of the salads will be made to order, chopped on-location and assembled right in front of the customer."

The Ridgewood location seats 60, with operating hours from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Delivery options are offered. The store's phone number is 201-447-8800.

They're not the only new kids on the Chestnut block – Wa Lobster Pot recently set up shop across the street.

High fat menus are pervasive in most restaurants. The result is elevated LDL cholesterol which over time leads to heart attack , stroke , and congestive heart failure. It appears that Saladworks may reverse this unhealthy trend.

are the salad dressings low fat or fat free? soup fat free and low sodium? sandwich meats low sodium/low fat? all too often, the idea of healthy eating is defeating by the add'l ingredients. James- does Saladworks post nutritional info for the menu offerings?
