Locals looking for a top notch breakfast need not go that far.

Two Ridgewood eateries were ranked in a list of the best breakfast spots in the state by NJ Monthly earlier this month.

The “Best Breakfasts” list included both the Country Pancake House and Raymond’s.

The ranking called the Country Pancake House, “the bustling home of the four-egg omelet,” and pointed out its 112 varieties of oversized pancakes.

“CPH delivers quality as well as quantity in every breakfast category,” the ranking said.

The Ridgewood location of Raymond’s also made the list. The ranking calls the restaurant a romantic evocation of a 1940’s diner.

“Raymond’s remains unmatched at what it sets out to do—deliver expertly crafted comfort food at reasonable prices in a setting so hip and faux timeless you just hate to leave,” the list said.

Several other Bergen County eateries made the ranking, including the Rutherford Pancake House, La Vie En Rose in Waldwick, Just Janice in Ho-Ho-Kus, and Chillers Grill and the Original Pancake House in Fort Lee. See the full list here

Daily Treat also does a good job.

Love CPH! Found Raymonds to be overpriced and I left hungry. Daily Treat is adequate.

DT is good. Never been to Raymond's. Pancake house is home of the flour manhole covers. You could not make a worse pancake. And who in their right mind would stand in line for breakfast?

I agree about the Pancake House. It's always been on the "Best Breakfast" or whatever list, and there is always a line outside. Who is hyping it up? The pancakes are average at best.

The CPH is basically the equivalent of the Carnegie Deli in NYC. It's all in the wow factor. Those enormous portions. I do occasionally go, usually to take out-of-town friends. It's good visual entertainment, but in reality, once you've got past the portion sizes, it's pretty ordinary. Their menu makes it almost impossible to order sensibly, as everything is an oversized production, most of which goes into the garbage.

The Daily Treat is the best. Owners Gus & John are very personable and promptly address any customer concerns. Prices are reasonable as well. Why go anywhere else?

Daily Treat does a great job with breakfast. They have the best-tasting (as opposed to hugest) pancakes around, served, as a matter of course, with real maple syrup.

The Daily Treat is a Ridgewood legend and it is "the" place to go whether it is for a meeting and coffee, a quick bite or a full meal. The food is always good, the owners and staff are friendly and they are always so accommodating.

Okay guys, all this Daily Treat talk has made me decide to take my kids there tomorrow for breakfast. I've been going there on and off for many years, but I don't think I've ever tried their breakfasts. "Come on, kids, let's go get us some eats".

Love Raymond's but pricey.

I never understood why there is a line at Country Pancake House. I would never recommend this place to a friend. I make better pancakes at home! Perhaps they make a large donation to the magazines that rate them so high????

In general people think quantity equates to quality. That's why the Country Pancake house is always packed.

We have it so hard in Ridgewood, having to argue about which breakfast in town is best. Yum. Yum. Yum.
DD February 07, 2014 at 12:46 PM
Wow. No one else sees an argument. Very troubling.

I haven't been to the 2 top rated ones but I would say the Daily Treat does a great job and their service is top of the line! They pay attention to the customer which is half of what goes into making these places last so long.
