Valley Maintains High Scores in Nursing, Patient Safety

Two independent hospital ratings agencies recently recognized Valley with top distinctions.

Two hospital accreditation agencies recently renewed Valley Hospital’s high marks in two categories of operations.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center last week gave the hospital “Magnet” distinction for its nursing practices. The distinction represents 6 percent of American hospitals assessed for standards of patient care.

This is the third consecutive year that the hospital has received the recognition.

“Achieving this designation places Valley in the top tier of U.S. hospitals,” Valley CEO Audrey Meyers said in a statement. “This designation provides recognition of excellence in nursing, and achieving it took the efforts of all of our staff, those at the beside and those who work behind the scenes.”

For the fourth consecutive year, Valley was also given an ‘A’ grade for patient safety by The Leapfrog Group, an independent group that assesses hospital quality nationwide.

The top grade is based on 28 measures of publicly available data on cleanliness, security and preparations for power outages.

Valley was one of 32 percent of hospitals nationwide to earn the top grade.

“As patients begin to take a more active role in selecting where to receive health care, it has never been more important to focus on hospital safety and transparency,” Leapfrog CEO Leah Binder said. “The ‘A’ hospitals, including The Valley Hospital, are helping us to raise the standards of health care nationwide.”
