Spencer Savings Bank Concludes 2013's Run Series at Wood-Ridge Mayor's 5K

Elmwood Park, N.J. (October 24, 2013) – Spencer Savings Bank, a community bank headquartered in Elmwood Park, N.J., concluded its 5K run series on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at the Wood-Ridge Mayor’s 5K, at Wood-Ridge High School.

Presented by Mayor Paul Sarlo and the Borough of Wood-Ridge, the event drew more than 300 local participants, all to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which works to develop a cure and to improve the quality of life for those with Cystic Fibrosis, and the American Cancer Society, to aid in the fight against breast cancer with groundbreaking research, information and support. Spencer Savings Bank’s team, comprised of bank employees and their family members, proudly participated in the event to support the worthy causes and to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

Spencer Savings Bank came in first place overall in the team category. A number of bank employees and family members were also specially recognized for winning race times in their age categories, including Lisa Occhipinti, Thomas Mathews, John Fitzpatrick, Erin Fitzpatrick and Rohan Woo.

“Part of our underlying mission is to support the communities we serve and contribute to local events and organizations to help make a difference in the lives of our customers,” said José B. Guerrero, President of Spencer Savings Bank. “We believe these races are a great way to increase team bonding, meet local families, encourage the importance of fitness, and give back to charities and local organizations. We were particularly excited to conclude this year’s run series in Wood-Ridge, as we are currently preparing for the opening of a new branch in the area.”

Spencer Savings Bank expects to open its new branch in Wood-Ridge, N.J. in early 2014.

Spencer Savings Bank’s 2013 5K run series totaled eight events, and included its participation in the Nutley Chamber of Commerce’s 15th Annual 5K Fun Run/Walk, Lyndhurst Day’s 5K Run/Fitness Walk, 12th Annual Westfield 5K Run and Pizza Extravaganza, Garfield Y Boilermaker 5K Run, Union Township Chamber of Commerce’s Third Annual Mayor’s Day 5K Run/ Walk, Community Hope’s Annual Flag Day 5K and the Second Annual Elmwood Park Chamber of Commerce’s 5K and Kids Fun Run. With another successful race year completed, Spencer’s enthusiastic team will recommence its run series in the spring of 2014.
