The Ridgewood Unitarian Society will hold a memorial Saturday marking the one year anniversary of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

The public is invited to attend the service Dec. 14 at 9:30 a.m., billed as a time to “share our common values of children and community.”

It comes a year after 20-year-old Adam Lanza fatally shot 27 people, including 20 children at the Connecticut school. The tragedy was one of the largest school shootings in American history.

A vigil was held at the church last year in the weeks after the shooting.

The Unitarian Society is located at 113 Cottage Place in Ridgewood. For more information, call 201-444-6225.

Why are you people doing this??? don't you get it? the people of Newtown are the one's asking for PRIVACY and this is your response???? this has NOTHING to do with you yet you continue to use this tragedy to further you own agenda....if your so "concerned about the children" then give it a rest and respect the wishes of the people who were directly impacted.....

It's "feel good" stuff, nothing more. And, when people have absolutely nothing to hang their hats on, they reach for prayers and vigils as they're the last vestige of the hopeless.

Perhaps the people Newtown should have prayed for privacy. However since prayers are a vestige of ancient tribal beliefs and those believers are mired in a 2000 year old fantasy it would be amazing if they could mind their own business. At least they will all feel better after they pray.
