Glen Rock Fundraiser to Benefit Families of Disabled Persons

Julia Anne Kirsch Foundation will hold garage sale on May 4.

A large garage sale in Glen Rock on Saturday will benefit disabled families in Bergen County.

On May 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Clifford and Teri Kirsch will have toys, games, household items, sporting goods, furniture and children's clothes for sale. The sale will be held at 227 Elmwood Avenue in Glen Rock.

Proceeds benefit the Julia Anne Kirsch Foundation, named in memory of the Kirsch's deceased daughter. Facing severe medical issues, she passed away in 2011. Proceeds of the garage sale fundraiser will be earmarked to provide grants for equipment and other necessary items for the disabled.

"The support we have received from the Glen Rock community has been overwhelming," said Teri Kirsch, president of the foundation. "This support has allowed us to begin work to touch and help the disabled in a meaningful way. This Fundraiser is another way the community can help – even if folks stop by for a few minutes just to say hello and pick up a flyer to learn more about us."

The foundation, now a year old, is embarking on establishing a scholarship at Glen Rock High School for a student who best demonstrates a desire to enter a career that will serve the disabled. The foundation is also allocating funding to ballet schools in Fair Lawn and Midland Park that serve disabled children. Also on the foundation's agenda is funding a project at Bergen ARC to help families better understand changes in disability laws in New Jersey.
