Ridgewood Wildscape Association president Andy Antista toured the area, explaining its history and ecological importance

What arguably may be one of Ridgewood’s best kept secrets, Gypsy Pond was recently toured by Andy Antista, president of the Ridgewood Wildscape Association. Once a hotbed of activity, the site on the Ridgewood/Hawthorne border is a low-key, relaxing area with a diverse collection of wildlife.

Check out the video to learn all about the oft-forgotten Gypsy Pond.

Thank you Ridgewood Wildscape Association for the great clean-up and saving the pond. Essentially this was a great educational look into how nature provides, especially the comments about the downed tree. I remember taking an environmental course in college and how the professor was so enamored about the subject and how it affected me as a person gaining knowlege. Thanks for the video.

I grew up on the top of the woods on the Hawthorne side Barker Ave. We spent many winters ice skating on the pond sleigh riding down through the woods to the pond, in the summer we would go down the trails through the woods to clearing and pick punks. that old foundation in the woods is Known to many as the gypsy house lol and if you go up into the hils there are caves dug by kids you go in walk about a quarter mile and come out in a diffrent spot NOT SAFE I am sure, great memories of the pond its worth the preservation..
