Missing Ridgewood Man Described as Suicidal by Police

Robert Schrieber, 27, was described by police as suffering from Schitzoaffective disorder and possibly experiencing hallucinations.

Ridgewood police are asking for the public's help in locating a suicidal man missing since Wednesday.

According to Detective Peter Youngberg, 27-year-old Robert Schreiber was last seen at his East Side residence at 5 p.m. wearing a grey t-shirt, black mesh shorts, and flip flops.

Village police and New Jersey State Police searched the wooded area behind Veterans Field Thursday night. There was no sign of Schreiber.

Schreiber suffers from Schitzoaffective disorder and may be experiencing hallucinations, Youngberg said. He described Schrieber, 6'0" and 230 lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes.

It's not known if Schreiber would be a danger to others if confronted, he said.

Youngberg cautioned anyone from approaching the missing man if spotted, asking the public instead to call 911 or the Ridgewood Police Department at 201-670-5519.

The New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit are aiding in the investigation. They can be reached at (800) 709-7090.
