Glen Rock Council Race Remains Too Close to Call

Incumbents Mary Jane Surrago and Michael O'Hagan appear to have kept seats, according to unofficial results.

Republican incumbents Mary Jane Surrago and Michael O’Hagan appeared Tuesday night to have edged out Democratic challengers Amy Martin and Sean Brennan by a razor thin margin.

But with unofficial results released by the borough clerk showing only 17 votes between second and third place finishers O’Hagan and Martin, and an unknown number of provisional ballots being tallied by the county, the election remained too close to call pending the release of official results.

According to the borough’s unofficial results, Surrago finished first with 2,047 votes, followed by O’Hagan with 2,029.

Martin and Brennan had 2,012 and 1,993 votes, respectively. The polling remained close in each of the borough’s eight voting districts.

In an October forum, the candidates clashed on their approaches to a turf field proposal, the Democrats suggesting that the project should be decided by voter referendum.

The challngers also called for more aggressive efforts to address the business climate in the borough, an issue where Surrago and O’Hagan said efforts were well underway.

Should Surrago and O’Hagan keep their seats for another three-year term, as it appears they will, the mayor and council will remain entirely Republican.
