Eastern Christian Middle School Writing Contest Reception

Well Read is very proud to be the host for the Eastern Christian Middle School Writing Contest Night! Please join us as we celebrate these talented writers by announcing the contest winners and reading the top three stories and the runner up's piece at our store on April 16th from 7-9pm.

About the ECMS Writing Competition

Every Thursday afternoon, a dedicated group of seventh and eighth graders at Eastern Christian Middle School gathers from 3-4PM for an after-school writing group. This began in November when the students chose to participate in NaNoWriMo (National November Writing Month) and wrote short stories for contest submissions to Scholastic and Teen Ink in January. Since then, the students worked on short stories for the ECMS Writing Competition. After choosing from a series of prompts or submitting a proposal for a story of their own, students got to work on stories of no fewer than 1200 words and no more than 1500 words. Judges from Southern New Hampshire University, a local public school, and two published authors (Jennifer Gracen from Long Island, NY and Mike Hancock from South Padre Island, TX) read and scored the twelve student entries using an ECMS writing rubric. Family and friends will join the winning writers as their works will be read out loud at Well Read Books.

We sincerely hope that you come out to support these very talented, budding young writers. This event is FREE and open to anyone who loves to read or write.
