MAHWAH MUSEUM EVENTS

On Thursday, February 21 at 5:00 p.m., the Mahwah Museum, 201 Franklin Turnpike, will host a new membership meet and greet reception by the Bergen Highlands/Ramsey Rotary Club.  Guests will be able to visit the acclaimed exhibit “Nike Missile Base in Mahwah: Nuclear Warheads In Our Backyards” which opened on February 2 as well as the continuing “Les Paul in Mahwah” exhibit.  The Bergen Highlands/Ramsey Rotary Club was founded in 1952 and is part of Rotary International which is the largest service club in the world with 1.2 million members in 34,000 clubs around the world.  The local Rotary Club is a patron of the Museum , provides scholarships for local students and grants to local charitable organizations, participates in Rotary International activities such as the eradication of polio, and is a major benefactor of the Center for Food Action Mahwah facility.  The club meets on Mondays at Houlihans at 12:15 p.m. for lunch.  New members are welcome and can get information by emailing bob@baronpoolservice.com.

On Wednesday, February 27, guitar lovers and Les Paul fans will be able to play some of the guitars in the “Les Paul: A Tribute” exhibit.  Some of the guitars available to play are a 1950 Gibson Les Paul Solid Body Guitar with the first “Les Paulverizer,” a 1975 experimental prototype of the Les Paul Standard Jimmy Page Heritage 3 which was built by Gibson and modified by Les and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, as well as Les Paul’s personal guitar, a 1969 LP G-2 custom built by Gibson.  Many other interesting and one of a kind instruments will be made available for musicians to play.  Up to five musicians can play together, for $25 per musician for 45 minute sessions.  Advance reservations are required and can be made at www.mahwahmuseum.org.

On Tuesday March 12 at 7:30, the Museum will host a Gallery Talk with original founding Les Paul Trio member Lou Pallo.  Lou Pallo performed weekly with Les for close to 40 years, and performed and produced the CD “Jersey Guitar Mafia” and the new CD “Thank you Les.”  Lou, a long time friend of Les Paul’s, will perform and talk about the making of his new CD, which features many of the famous musicians who were befriended and mentored by Les over the years, including Jose Feliciano, Steve Miller, Keith Richards, and Slash.  The CD will be available for purchase at the Gallery Talk.   The Talk will take place in the upstairs gallery in the Les Paul exhibit; due to limited seating, reservations are required and can be made at www.mahwahmuseum.org or by calling 201-512-0099.
