Why We're Running

We are seven days out from Election Day and in case we haven’t had a chance to meet you yet, we’d like to introduce ourselves.  We are running for the NJ Assembly in the 40th District.  I (Tony Galietti) am the Chief of Police in Woodland Park and my running mate, Leo Arcuri, is a lifelong resident of Wayne and a small business owner.

Over the last few years, hardworking families across New Jersey have had to make tough decisions.  Between the high cost of living in New Jersey and a bad economy, families have had to struggle.  We need Assembly members who get it.

We are running for one simple reason.  We want to bring sensible, bipartisan leadership to Trenton.  In course of our careers, mine in law enforcement and Leo’s as a small business owner, we have had to make our own tough decisions.

In my own department, I had to make a choice, either lay-off police officers and put public safety at risk or find sensible ways to save money.  At the end of the day I cut overtime by a third and found other ways for my department to operate more efficiently to save taxpayer money and to save jobs.  With creative thinking from other departments, Woodland Park had a zero percent tax increase this year.

Leo as well, has had to make tough decisions.  He navigated his business through a bad economy.  The bottom line is, a budget is a budget.  We need to figure out how to save money and stick to it, while continuing to fund high quality schools and essential programs.

Leo and I strongly believe that we need to find commonsense, bipartisan solutions in Trenton, but our work shouldn’t be confined to our State’s Capital.  We pledge to lead in our communities from the ground up and not just during campaign season.

We’ve been speaking with voters all over the 40th District and time after time we hear that they want their Assembly members to be visible and engaged in the community.  We will be there for the people we serve.  The issues we face are not Republican or Democrat issues, they are our issues.

Over the next week, we will outline our ideas for the 40th District and beyond.  We thank you for giving us the opportunity to listen to you.  Now it’s time to get to work and get the job done.
