Mayors Aronsohn and van Keuren were two of many Bergen County mayors who delivered Meals on Wheels as part of a national campaign.

The following letter to the editor was submitted to Patch by Meals on Wheels.

Last month, a group of Bergen County mayors, including Waldwick Mayor Thomas A. Giordano, Ridgewood Mayor Paul S. Aronsohn, Allendale Mayor Vince Barra & Council Member Amy Wilczynski, Glen Rock Mayor John van Keuren, Midland Park Mayor Bud O’Hagan, and Saddle River Council Member Bruce Walenczyk all took part as well to help show their support for CMI’s clients.

COMMUNITY MEALS, INC. invited elected officials to observe the meal packing process in the Christ Church kitchen - CMI volunteers pack the freshly made food prepared by Valley Dining (at The Valley Hospital) into individual “take-out” labeled aluminum tins.

After the meals were stacked into coolers, the Mayors & Council Representatives accompanied volunteer drivers on routes through their respective towns to embrace the volunteer experience and connect with CMI’s clients – their constituents.

“Mayors For Meals” is a national campaign during the month of March, initiated by the Meals On Wheels Association of America, which seeks to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of the local community.

The Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) is the oldest and largest national organization in the United States representing those programs like CMI that provide meals to people in need.  MOWAA’s mission is to end senior hunger by 2020.

To obtain more information about MOWAA or to locate a local Meals On Wheels program, visit the MOWAA website at www.mowaa.org.

CMI is extremely appreciative of the support from the elected officials.

Congratulations to the mayors for taking the time to demonstrate that while we can't do everything, we all can do something to help our neighbors in need.
