Ridgewood Teen Starts 'Jerseys from Jersey' Drive

Last year, Deb Frank collected 100 pounds of jerseys for needy kids. Now she wants to do it again.

The following was submitted to Patch by reader Deborah Frank.

Last year Ridgewood High School student Deborah Frank organized a “Jerseys from Jersey” collection drive and, with the generous support of the Ridgewood community, was able to bring over 100 pounds of soccer jersey donations to the children of an African orphanage (St. Vincent’s) in Karen, Kenya.

Deb was so moved by her hometown’s generosity and being able to help these beautiful children that she is aiming to continue “Jerseys from Jersey” again this year.

Adventures Cross-Country, the tour company Deb traveled with last year, has graciously offered to help with the logistics of shipping donations this summer to other orphanages and schools they’re partnered with in numerous countries.  Deb is hoping to work with Adventures Cross-Country, Project Interact and her JCC Commit Fellowship program to organize a drive to collect gently used sports jerseys (soccer, baseball, football, etc.) and other related sports equipment for children in need in Cambodia, Costa Rica, The Dominican Republic, St. Vincent’s in Karen, Kenya, and Tanzania.

Last year Deb was blessed to experience firsthand the immense potential we each have to make a difference in the lives of others. She is hoping to be able to again make a positive difference in the lives of others in need.
