Ridgewood Veteran to Bike Across US to Raise Money for Troops

Man's 10,000-mile journey will raise money to help have homes adapted to serve the needs to returning disabled vets, report said.

A 65-year-old Vietnam vet from Ridgewood has set off on a trip across the country that he hopes will raise $25,000.

According to a NorthJersey.com report, Richard King has started a 10,000 motorcycle ride across the United States on what he calls the "Long Road Home America" project, which will raise funds for Homes for Our Troops. The charity promotes awareness of the need for adapted housing for wounded veterans returning home from war, and provides funding to build it, the report said.

As King travels this summer, he plans to stop in towns across the country to talk with local vets, the report said. He is now traveling to Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and then west to Oregon, the report said.
