Glen Rock Planning Revamped Holiday Event

Part of larger push to bring more people into the downtown.

The Borough of Glen Rock, the chamber of commerce and the central business district are planning an expanded event surrounding the annual tree lighting this year.

The “Winter Wonderland,” to be held at Borough Hall, is part of a broader push by municipal and chamber officials to raise awareness of  Glen Rock businesses, an effort that also includes a planned spring street fair to match the annual fall offering, which was also approved by the council this week.

The chamber has seen increased membership over the year, and part of their effort is to add more events highlighting the business community, said Pat Zengel, the chamber’s treasurer.

“We’ve really been promoting the businesses in the downtown this year,” she said.

The traditional tree lighting won’t be going away. Instead, it will be a feature of a larger event that will include music, refreshments and – weather permitting – a kids' petting zoo.

Organizers are also hoping businesses will offer coupons, and a unique type of raffle will be held where entry will require patronizing a certain number of participating businesses.

“We’re trying to get the businesses in front of everybody again,” Zengel said.

The event is slated for Saturday, Dec. 7 from 4:30-5:30 p.m., with initiatives hoped to encourage residents to shop and dine out throughout the evening.
