Ridgewood Adds Three New Firefighters

Ridgewood formally added three new career firefighters to the ranks of the village fire department.

The trio, sworn in by the mayor and council Wednesday night, were hired in June, according to Chief Jim Van Goor.

Christopher Eidschun, who previously served in the coast guard and James Kakolewski, whose brother Michael is a lieutenant in the department, grew up in the village, the fire chief said.

Kurt Harba, a Paramus native, served as an intern with the department in high school, later obtaining a degree in fire science and moving to Ridgewood in order to become a career village firefighter, Van Goor said.

The council on Wednesday night also swore in Harvey Weber as a lieutenant and Douglas Christopher as a volunteer firefighter.
