George Miller, 83, Former Glen Rock Police Officer

George Miller, a former Glen Rock police officer, died Monday in a South Carolina Hospital. He was 83 years old.

Officer Miller was born in Midland Park and served in the United States Army, according to his obituary.

He joined the borough's police force in September 1955, spending 25 years on the beat before his retirement in 1980.

"During his tenure with the GRPD, George was well known in town, and knew many of the residents. He was described as the 'Quintessential Community Policeman," the department wrote on its Facebook page Tuesday. "Officer Miller could always be found walking the beat of downtown Glen Rock."

In his retirement, Officer Miller relocated to South Carolina with his wife of 59 years, Ann Miller.

Off the beat, Officer Miller enjoyed spending his time working maintenance at a local resort and golf course, his obituary said.

Along with his wife, he is survived by son Darren and brother Johnny. Private services were scheduled at Goldfinch Funeral Home in South Carolina.

An online guestbook is available for those with memories of Officer Miller or messages of condolences to his family.
