WWII Veteran Roland Pinealt Dead at 87

Former villager spent four years in the Navy during WWII, serving during the invasion of Normandy.

A former Ridgewood resident and WWII veteran who drove a tank on Normandy Beach on D-Day died at the age of 87 on June 16.

According to his obituary, Roland 'Ron' Pineault served more than four years with the Navy during WWII. Enlisting at the age of 17, Pinealt had to persuade his mother to sign the release form. He would end up crossing the English Channel 60 times carrying infrantry and supplies while dodging U-Boat shells.

Pineault drove a tank from USS LST #338 onto Normandy Beach on D-Day, his obituary stated. He was honorably discharged in June of 1947.

Pineault is survived by his brother Edward; sons Maurice, Matthew, Mitchell, and seven grandchildren. His graveside service will be held at Crest Haven Memorial Park on Clifton, NJ on June 20. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 19 from 5-7 p.m. at the C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Veterans of Foreign Wars can be made.
